How it works

Cash and savings are Zakatable wealth. Once your net wealth has been at or above the nisab for a full lunar year (hawl), Zakat of 2.5% is due.

Nisab in dollars. The threshold equals the value of 85 grams of pure gold (many scholars also accept the lower silver nisab of 595 grams, which benefits the poor). This tool uses the gold standard and updates the dollar threshold as you change the gold price per gram.

What counts as zakatable wealth. Cash on hand, bank balances, and investments held at market value, plus money others owe you that you expect to collect. Debts due within the next year and bills due now are deducted first.

Retirement accounts. Scholars differ on 401k and IRA balances: some include the full accessible value annually, others only funds you could withdraw (minus penalties), and others only after distribution. Enter what matches the opinion you follow.
