Ramadan & Eid

Fidyah

A charitable payment for those who cannot fast during Ramadan due to chronic illness, old age, or pregnancy and nursing (according to some scholars). Enter the days missed and your local meal cost, and the total updates live.

Days Missed

The fasts you could not keep this Ramadan.

Reason (optional, for your reference)

Fidyah applies when you are unable to fast and cannot make up the days later. If you can make up the days, Qada (making up the fasts) is required instead.

Cost Per Day

One meal for a person in need.

Selecting a region switches the site currency and fills in a typical meal cost for your area — you can still edit both.

Understanding Fidyah

Fidyah vs Kaffarah. Fidyah is for those who cannot fast. Kaffarah is a penalty for deliberately breaking a fast without a valid reason and is much larger — feeding 60 people or fasting 60 consecutive days.

Who pays Fidyah. Those with a chronic illness that prevents fasting, the elderly who cannot fast, and pregnant or nursing women — the last of these according to some schools of thought.

When Qada applies instead. If you missed fasts due to travel, temporary illness, or menstruation, you make up the days later rather than paying Fidyah. Fidyah applies only when the days cannot be made up.

The amount. For each missed day, feed one person in need a meal — or pay its cash value. The defaults here are approximate meal costs by region; enter your local amount for accuracy.
