How it works
Gold and silver are Zakatable wealth. Once your holdings have been owned for a full lunar year and reach the nisab, Zakat of 2.5% is due on their market value.
Nisab. The threshold is 85 grams of pure gold or 595 grams of pure silver. Many scholars advise using the silver nisab when you hold silver or mixed wealth, as it is lower and benefits the poor.
Karat conversion. Only the pure metal counts. A gram of 22K gold is 22/24 pure, 18K is 18/24, and so on; silver marked 925 is 92.5% pure. This calculator converts each item's weight to pure metal before valuing it.
Market value. Your Zakat is based on today's price per gram, not what you paid. Update the price field with a current rate for the most accurate result.
